October Currently and a mini-rant

Linking up with Farley again this month for October Currently! Hop on over and join the fun!!

Onto the second part of my post: I am pretty sure I have/had walking pneumonia. I am pretty sure I got it from the combination of my school being a)full of 2000-2050 people daily, b) unnaturally humid and c)full of sick students. One thing I am 150% sure of, however, is:

I AM FRIGGIN OVER BEING SICK!!!!!!!

Did I scream that loud enough? Has everyone heard me? I am sick and tired of being sick and tired. My brain literally hasn't functioned properly in two weeks. It is showing in my work. My department chair came to observe my Honors 9 class yesterday and it was God-awful (not exaggerating). My major hold up are my SMART objectives. Last year, I got solid 3's (or effective) on IMPACT for my objective-driven classes. This year I feel as if I have taken a step backwards in that department. Is it because I am teaching English now? But I am sick and tired (see a trend here?) of blaming my issues on switching content areas. I feel as though I am using that as crutch. I really want to talk to my department chair about using our Professional Development day to get some work done on creating objectives. I believe quite a bit of the department needs some help in that area of IMPACT. Anyways, I joined the school wellness challenge and I need to be healthy in order to participate. This crud needs to go away.

Has anyone else noticed an influx of teachers getting sick or is it just my school?

  1. I know what you mean about being sick all the time at this time of the year. Our school is full of mold, and the ragweed is killer. I hope you feel better soon, so you can get back on track!

  3. So sorry to hear you are sick. I have the Annual Back-To-School Sickness right now too. In response to your question about crocheting... I learned the basics from my grandma when I was like 6-7 years old, but I recently picked it back up with a "Learn to Crochet" book and lots of YouTube videos. I am proof you can easily teach yourself!

  5. Hello! My first year is going pretty well, and I think it is mostly due to the support of my team and my administration. They have stood beside and behind me for everything and anything I may need--from colorful paper to a student issue.
Sometimes I get overwhelmed when I think about tackling everything in one year...but usually I do in-depth planning day by day (on Sundays!) so it's easier for me. It's definitely weird to think that next year I won't be making things up as I go!
I think I am my own harshest critic (aside from some parents--ha! kidding!) though. I hold myself to high standards, and I know my recent lessons have not been my best. I challenge myself to step it up!

  6. Found you through Farley's linky. I know what you mean about getting sick! I taught for 2 years (7-12 ELA) before going back to school, and my first year I kept getting colds. My husband and I eat extremely healthy and work out 6 days a week. I haven't been sick at all in over a year (this is my first year not teaching)! So, I definitely think that helps. I'm your newest follower and look forward to keeping up with you.

  8. Oh girl..... you are so not alone on the sickness thing. I live in Tennessee and this is my 8th year teaching. I also worked in a preschool for 4 years prior to that. I rarely get sick and let me tell you that I was sick for over a month this year! I came down with a cold that turned into a bad sinus infection. I coughed all night long for about two weeks and had to sleep sitting straight up on the couch for several nights. I then got pink eye from my kiddos twice, yes twice. I am finally better. It took a visit to the doctor and a round of antibotics to get rid of it. I feel your pain!!!! I enjoyed reading your currently and I am now a follower. Please come and check out my blog too!
